Intro
I’ve been learning about entrepreneurship and personal development for the past two years. Since then, I have tried about four businesses, but I never took them seriously, to be honest. I was always in the learning stage, never acting.
Everything changed about 4 months ago. I’ve started creating content and taking some action - it's far from good, but that's how it starts.
I am not an entrepreneur yet - I don't have any people paying me money (which is a business), but I have learned some valuable lessons throughout this time.
I am sure they will help you even a little.
Here are my 5 key lessons and mistakes I made:
Thinking about action, making plans, but never acting
The worst thing ever. You spend days and weeks thinking, repeating the same thoughts, and spinning in circles. You make no progress at all, and stress is 24/7 from thinking and worrying about how much you don't know yet and how bad you are.
The thing is, your thoughts and feelings aren't real. You can think about anything and even feel it, but it's not real.
Thoughts aren't reality; only action is. The world doesn't react to your thoughts, dreams, feelings - only to action, even if it's imperfect.
So what helps me is:
Realize there's no failure, you either win or learn. The only failure is not trying
Imperfect action is 1000x better than no action
You can always learn things, and ask those who are where you want to be for advice
Everyone starts there
Put your goals, projects, steps, milestones, and actions in a place where you see them every day - be clear on them
Track your actions - write what you are doing daily. This will show you patterns, what your day looks like, and if there are any actions you are avoiding.
Be honest with yourself - why am I thinking about this, but not acting? Am I afraid of something?
This should give you clarity.
And remember that your feelings and thoughts are only in your mind - not the objective reality.
Not thinking critically - doing what people tell you
When you watch people on the internet telling you different things, and you, without thinking critically, follow their advice blindly.
It's a huge trap.
Those people got their beliefs, mindset, and ideas from different people, who also got theirs from different people - you see the problem here.
The solution?
Ask yourself:
Is this really true?
Why does it work this way?
How can I research this?
I was blinded by the noise on social media and the internet.
(and still are in a way, we all are. We never are truly right about things, but we want to get as close as possible)
Every time you consume something, keep this in mind. Don't just follow people's advice blindly.
See how this connects to what you already know, to the universal laws.
Keep things simple, stick to your fundamentals, and next steps
See it for what it is.
Being emotional about outcomes
Emotions will ruin you. They make you blind and make wrong decisions, you are stuck in yourself - fear, doubt, anxiety.
And if you don't handle it, you aren’t growing.
I see it so often in my case - I am scared of posting content, being out there, talking to people, failing, not being good enough, and all that stuff
It's horrible.
But I manage it - not always, though, but it gets better
Here's what I do:
Take a break
Define my goal, problem, and next actions I need to take
Notice my emotions towards those actions, why do I feel this way
See this action for what it is, not for what I think it is
Learn about this action/problem I am facing - this way you know what you deal with
Break this action into small steps, write them down, be clear on what I need to do and how. Often you are anxious because you don't know what to do.
Focusing on tactics and details, not foundations
No tactic will work without foundations. I used to be so focused on tactics (still I am lol) that I would forget about the foundations, I wouldn't even be aware of them, which gave me close to 0 progress.
I wanted to post content for examples, but my fear would stop me for months.
The same goes for talking to strangers and potential customers (the thing I need to solve) - This fear of judgment, not delivering results, failing them, and not being good enough. This really holds me back
This shows you the importance of those foundations.
Here are examples:
General business knowledge
Emotional management
Business disciplines
Self-awareness
Mindset
This is what I learned from Sam Ovens for the most part.
So work on your mind first, general knowledge, and understanding of yourself, business, and the world.
Take action on your plans and thoughts.
Don't be emotional about results.
And think critically.
We will make it together.
I hope it helps.
